Lakey Peak, Sumbawa

With every man and his dog, and all the pros, talking about G-land for the next swell we opted for a short trip to Lakey Peak. $140 each got us return flights to Sumbawa, part A of the trip. Part B is a 2hr drive passing by salt farms and small towns.

Funny unexpected things happen time and again and we experienced one of these on our way to Lakeys. Winding through the hills toward the ocean something fell, or more like rolled, down a near vertical 3-4m cutting. We all look back including driver. To our amazement we see it was a fluffy, leafy, haired local lady. She gets up on her feet and smiles. We smiled and waved back. She waved back still smiling and then lifts her shirt and flashes her large tits at us!?!?! Ha! Ok. So we pulled up at Hotel Balumba and scored front balcony rooms – very important for watching the surf without taking more than a step out of your room! And it gets better, living in the room next to us we meet Dan who not only knows the ins and outs of the place, but runs daily yoga sessions at Balumba. Whatever the swell Lakeys has options. Jess stepped it up another level again, to #1 on the Lakeys female bodyboard tour with super sessions out Nungas and Pipe. Yes, Lakeys was all about surfing, and when we weren’t surfing we were watching the surf with new friends. Throw in some yoga, mahi mahi steaks for dinner, a few Bintangs and a few more Beng Bengs and you get the picture. If you haven’t then here are a few to help your imagination.

Having done a medial ligament strain with joint capsule/menisci damage on day 5 of a 42 day Indo trip Steve was still grumpy hobbling around as it had only been 3 weeks. “Jess can you get me another large Bintang my knee is sore”, “aw yeah and while you’re there another couple of Beng Bengs”. “Can you do some Reiki on me please”? Anyway, on his first dawn patrol, while a run-down Jess laid sleeping, water photographer Chris Garden caught him getting up to no good on his 2nd wave out at the Peak.
